Burglars have broken into the home of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The Sweden attacker played in his team's 1-0 Premier League win against Fulham on Saturday 6 April.

However, thieves may have targeted his home in Darras Hall, Northumberland, just two days earlier.

Northumbria Police said they received a report of a burglary from a property around 10.05pm on Thursday - but believe the incident took place earlier that day.

They added that a vehicle was taken from the address, but later found abandoned just a few miles away in the Dissington area.

There have been no arrests so far and police are still investigating.

It is not clear whether Isak or any of his family were home at the time.

It was reported that the gang of robbers gained entry to the four-bed home through rear patio doors, the Sun said.

A force spokesman said: "The offence is believed to have taken place earlier that day.

"It was reported that offenders gained entry to the property and took a vehicle from the address.

"The vehicle was later found abandoned in the Dissington area, and the occupants had fled the scene."

Police added "inquiries remain ongoing".

This is the latest in a string of high-profile targeted robberies of footballers' homes.

Jack Grealish, Manchester City teammate Joao Cancelo, Chelsea star Raheem Sterling, former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and ex-Manchester United players Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria, have all also been targeted in the past.
