A man has been charged with murder after a parcel delivery driver was killed during an alleged theft of a van.

Mark Ross, 32, of Armley is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Friday morning.

Claudiu-Carol Kondor, 42, from Sheffield, was pronounced dead at the scene in Heights Drive, Wortley, on Tuesday evening after his silver Ford Transit Cargo van was apparently stolen in Alliance Street while he was making a delivery.

Police said a 24-year-old man, who was arrested on Thursday, on suspicion of murder, remains in custody.

A woman, who was arrested at the same time on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released under investigation.

It's understood Mr Kondor had delivered a package for Amazon and returned to his van to find a man apparently trying to steal it at around 6.45pm.

When he tried to stop the alleged theft, the van was driven off at speed with the victim only partly in the passenger door of the vehicle.

The van then hit two parked cars and was driven away, leaving Mr Kondor injured in the street.

Officers were called to the scene five minutes later and found the delivery driver unconscious, with members of the public trying to help him.

Mr Kondor wasn't an Amazon employee, but worked for a company contracted to carry out their deliveries.

A GoFundMe set up for his family has so far raised more than £20,000.
