A woman and her dog have died after being hit by a taxi in Kent, police have said.

Officers were called to the A2990 Old Thanet Way between Chestfield roundabout and Greenhill roundabout to reports of a crash at about 8.30pm on Friday, Kent Police said.

The force says a black taxi was travelling towards Herne Bay when it crashed into the woman walking her dog.

Paramedics were called to the scene but the woman, who was in her 60s, and the dog were declared dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed, the force added.

Police are investigating and have urged any witnesses to come forward with information.
