A woman has been stabbed near a school in Luton, police have said.

The stabbing took place on Dunstable Road shortly after 8.30am on Tuesday.

The victim - who was seriously injured in the attack - has been taken to hospital.

Bedfordshire Police said a man has been arrested and is in police custody.

It said all children inside the school are safe and there is no wider threat to the public. It did not name the school.

"Police will maintain a strong presence in the area for reassurance," the force said in a statement.

It has urged anyone with information about the stabbing to contact police.
